Saleng, Pirates and Soweto Derby déjà vu loading for Kaizer Chiefs?
Interesting theory.
Some guys love scoring in an Orlando Pirates jersey against Kaizer Chiefs. Is Monnapule Saleng going to continue a trend?
Could Saleng be saved for the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs?
Mercurial winger Monnapule Monnapule Saleng scored a match-winning brace to help Pirates to a 3-2 win against Kaizer Chiefs in April 2024. The 26-year-old has been mysteriously absent from training and matchday squads in recent weeks, fuelling a media frenzy around what’s happening with the Bafana man. ‘Private’ reasons have been cited by the club. Saleng has only appeared three times in the Betway Premiership this term, with a return of two goals. He hasn’t featured in a competitive match for the club in 2025.
Déjà vu loading for Kaizer Chiefs?
There could be a feeling of déjà vu loading for Chiefs, however, as Saleng was completely out of the picture in the buildup to the last meeting between these sides. Can lightning strike twice with Saleng coming out of the blue to vanquish the Glamour Boys? Chiefs have been busy in the transfer market lately, swooping to sign three senior stars.
Pirates dump Otladisa and Gilberto
Meanwhile, Katlego Otladisa has left for Sekhukhune United on loan. Days prior, Gilberto returned to his former club Petro de Luanda until the end of the season.
“The Club can also confirm that it has reached an agreement with Sekhukhune United for the services Katlego Otladisa,” Orlando Pirates said. “The 28-year-old moves across to Babina Noko on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.”
Things haven’t worked out for Gilberto
Another player exiting the Sea Robbers is winger Gilberto who arrived for R11.5 million at the start of the campaign. He’s struggled to impose himself on South African football. The 23-year-old moves back to his former club for the remainder of the 2024-2025 campaign. He’s only managed 12 appearances for the club this term, including five in the league, with zero goals and zero assists.
“Orlando Pirates has reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Angolan international Gilberto to Petro de Luanda for the remainder of the season.
“The move sees Gilberto return to his hometown club, pending the successful completion of a medical.”
Do you expect to see Saleng returning for the Derby?
