Her Betway Premiership team, Royal AM, is now under the curatorship of SARS.

The team’s funds were frozen, leading to the non-payment of salaries for players and staff in December 2024.

Jaco Venter has been appointed as curator to oversee the club’s assets and operations.

In November 2024, SARS raided Mkhize’s property, including her luxury home in La Lucia, north of Durban.

‘Apologised to those affected’

Shauwn Mkhize confirmed the non-payment of the players, technical team, and staff in an Instagram post, acknowledging the hardship this has caused and apologising to those affected, writing: “As many are aware, the club is currently under curatorship following a preservation order obtained by SARS. While this has resulted in the temporary appointment of a curator, Mr Jaco Venter, to oversee the club’s assets and operations, we want to assure all stakeholders that Royal AM remains committed to resolving this matter as swiftly as possible.

“The club’s management team, led by our CEO and General Manager, has been working diligently with the curator to secure the necessary permissions to release funds for salary payments. It has always been the ethos of Royal AM to prioritise the well-being of our personnel, and we remain dedicated to upholding that principle despite the current challenges.

“We appreciate the patience and support of our players, staff, and their families during this difficult time. Additionally, we thank our fans, sponsors, and broader stakeholders for their continued trust and loyalty.

“Royal AM is committed to preserving the integrity of the club and ensuring its long-term success. We remain optimistic that this situation will be resolved soon, and we will provide timely updates as developments unfold.”

Prior to her problems with SARS, Mkhize lived a life of luxury, featuring in a reality TV show, Kwa Mam’Mkhize, on Mzansi Magic and Showmax.

Last year, the club was ordered by world football governing body FIFA to pay Samir Nurkovic and Ricardo Nascimento R15 million and R600 000, respectively, in unpaid salaries – or risk being expelled from the PSL.

FIFA also imposed a transfer ban on the KZN outfit for failing to pay Nurkovic.

Struggling

Royal AM are struggling in the Betway Premiership this season and find themselves down in 15th place in the 16-team league.

After 11 matches, Royal AM have only amassed eight points from one win, five draws and five defeats.

They are due to next be in action at home against Orlando Pirates on Wednesday, 22 January at 19:30.
