Former Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus was reportedly close to a return to topflight football in this current transfer window.

This publication had reported that Erasmus was set to join Chippa United after leaving Pirates on a free.

Pirates released quite a number of players in the previous window, as they made space for a new batch. Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Thabang Monare, Vincent Pule and Siyabonga Mpontshane were all offloaded by Pirates. Those being players who have seen their deals at expire at the club, with management deeming them surplus to requirements.

Erasmus was close to joining City

Having been in the wilderness for seven months, this publication reported that Erasmus was close to joining a new club. It was said that the striker was in negotiations with his hometown side Chippa. The next update was that it was a done deal as the player and club finally reached an agreement on personal terms.

Then while the expectation was for the club to release an official statement, things had instead gone quiet. That is up until now. According to Unplayable on ‘X’ Erasmus will no longer be joined Chippa. This after the two parties failed to agree on personal terms.

Deal called off!

This would’ve signalled a homecoming for Erasmus who was born in Gqeberha. He left early to join the School of Excellence before being snapped up by SuperSport United. Chippa are  believed to be in need of a striker and an experienced one at that. The former Pirates man seemed the perfect candidate for the job. This judging from his track record playing both locally and abroad. He is also a former Bafana Bafana international. It now seems, however, that it won’t be happening.

What should be next now for Erasmus? Comment below on which club you think should take him on.
