‘There’s no room for complacency’ – Kaizer Chiefs legend warns Thabo Cele
Former Kaizer Chiefs star Siyabonga Nomvethe says Thabo Cele brings valuable experience to the team but should deliver.
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Siyabonga Nomvethe has given his thoughts on the club’s recent signings including Thabo Cele.
The 28-year-old Cele was announced as one of the three signings alongside Makabi Lilepo and Tashreeq Morris.
Nomvethe has praised Morris for his hardwork and aggression as a striker
“Morris is a hardworking player. He doesn’t give up, he keeps pushing, and he’s a fighter. He has that aggression that you expect from a striker,” he told SNL24.
Kaizer Chiefs legend happy with the signing of Thabo Cele
“Sometimes, as a team, you need that type of player who will step up even in the dying moments of the game. He scores goals when given the chance, including remarkable goals. Therefore, he’s a solid signing. Up front, we need someone energetic to alleviate the pressure on our youngsters. Currently, we are relying too much on them.
Regarding Thabo Cele, Novethe said the Bafana midfielder will need to bring his experience to the Kaizer Chiefs team.
“Thabo Cele brings valuable experience from Europe, and we expect a lot from him since he has played overseas. There’s no room for complacency when you are part of a big team. In today’s football, teams are constantly in search of goalscorers, and a winger should be able to score as well. It’s not solely a striker’s responsibility,” Nomvethe continued.
“As long as you are in an attacking position, you are counted as a forward. So, Lilepo will need to work even harder to outperform [Christian] Saile. I’m pleased with the signings. It has been 10 years since we last lifted a trophy. They need to make sure they put in the effort. The season is still young.”
Out of the three new players at Kaizer Chiefs, Thabo Cele has been the biggest signing. The midfielder has not played competitive football in months.
