Polokwane City superstar Oswin Appollis was linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs for several months.

During the January transfer period, the links intensified however no formal offer was made by Amakhosi to the Bafana Bafana winger. Having scored three goals in 15 matches, Appollis has helped RIse and Shine to occupy third in the Betway Premiership.

Before the start of the season, he was set to join a North African team but the move collapsed. The club have indicated that selling Appollis was not ideal and would only sell to a team outside South Africa.

The likelihood is that Oswin Appollis is not keen on joining any local teams and might be eyeing a move to Europe. Joining Amakhosi might halt his progress and also break his relationship with City.

Rise and Shine coach Phuti Mohafe admitted he wasn’t convinced about the winger when he joined the team in 2023.

“When Appollis came to the club, I was one of the people that didn’t believe he would make it,” Mohafe told Sports Night Live With Andile.

“I told him he deserves to play for the national team but he had to change his attitude and fighting spirit. Since then, he has gotten better and better.”

Oswin Appollis has been City’s best player for two seasons, forcing his way into the Bafana Bafana squad.

“When I look at Appollis, I see a focused player who is not distracted by all the rumours. With the possibility of him moving, I don’t have power or a say over it, as the technical team, we are not even thinking about his replacement,” Mohafe added regarding the player’s future.

“Even for the long-term, I think Polokwane City is the team for Oswin Appollis and we don’t want to lose a player of his calibre. We are building a brand at Polokwane City, and we need him in it,” he said.
