HOST A WATCH PARTY AT HOME
If you’re planning to host a watch party for the match, IOL has a few tips to ensure your gathering is memorable and enjoyable.
Set the mood
Create a lively atmosphere by decorating your space with team colours, banners, and memorabilia. Encourage guests to wear black and white or gold and black to encourage friendly rivalry and team spirit.
Room with a view
Ensure your viewing area is comfortable and has a clear view of the screen. Consider arranging seating to accommodate all guests, perhaps with cushions or extra chairs, so everyone can enjoy the match comfortably.
Traditional snack platters
Include a menu that reflects local flavours. Traditional South African dishes like boerewors rolls, bunny chow, or chakalaka can be crowd-pleasers. For snacks, consider biltong, samoosas, or mini vetkoeks. Pair these with local beverages or a selection of beers to keep guests refreshed.
Celebrate even if you aren’t at the stadium
Regardless of the game’s outcome, plan a post-match activity to conclude the event. This could be a braai, sharing favourite moments from the match, or even a friendly backyard soccer game.
By using these ideas, you can host a Soweto Derby watch party that captures the excitement of the match even if you are not at the stadium.
