Leafy Constantia is home to South Africa’s oldest vineyards. Groot Constantia, which was founded in 1685, is a case in point. It’s the oldest wine farm in South Africa.

Located on the edge of the Southern Suburbs, Groot Constantia is just a 30-minute drive from central Cape Town. In addition to a rolling vineyard that boasts a view of False Bay, there’s plenty of history here, too. The estate hosts to an Iziko museum about the area.

2. Klein Constantia

Another nearby wine farm, this one was originally part of Groot Constantia but got split up between family members. Klein Constantia boasts lush greenery and views over the Constantia Valley. It isn’t short on history either, with examples of Cape Dutch thatched houses.

If you’re visiting this gorgeous wine farm in Cape Town, you’ll want to taste its Vin de Constance. This sweet wine is among the finest of the kind in the world. Both Napoleon Bonaparte and Queen Elizabeth II were known to be fans.

This pretty Cape Town wine farm is also an award-winner. In 2024, Durbanville Hills Winery scooped up the Top Producer prize at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Competition.

4. De Grendel Wines

Also in the Northern Suburbs, De Grendel Wines offers a noted fine wining and dinning experience. The Cape Town wine farm is well-known for its award-winning Sauvignon Blancs.
